PROJECT OVERVIEW
Pump Station 186 is located at 2369 11th Ave South in Grand Forks, ND. Due to severe localized flooding in previous years, a study was conducted in 2020 to determine what was causing it and what could be done to minimize it. It was determined that this area of town could benefit from increased stormwater pumping capacity. The storm station (Pump Station 188) directly adjacent to this area had too small a lot to build a bigger station; however, the city was able to find a nearby lot to build a new pump station to help with this area’s stormwater flow.
This project includes the installation of Pump Station 186, updates to Pump Station 188, and 2 additional pumps in Pump Station 182 at the southeast corner of S 20th Street and 11th Avenue S. To accommodate the additional flow from the new station and the additional pumps at Pump Station 182, a second stormwater forcemain is being installed in the south berm of 11th Ave South. This will cross Columbia Road and tie in to a much larger stormwater line on the west side of Columbia Road.

Currently, Pump Station 186 has all of the underground structure installed. The precast building was installed the beginning of May. The General Contractor is working on installing the roof on both buildings. The new pumps are scheduled to arrive at the end of June. After the structure is fully enclosed, the electricians will begin installing all of the electrical devices in the building.
The forcemain contractor is currently working on installing pipe just east of S 24th St. They will be there for a couple of days and then will jump to the east and start working east from S 21st St. They hope to be near the intersection of S 20th St by 6/20. The concrete crew is scheduled to arrive on 6/23 and will install the curb and gutter, as well as the streets and driveways that have been removed.
Project is expected to last till the end of September.
